ShredIt Mac

About ShredIt

This file-shredding software allows the user to delete files but falls short of similar applications for a number of reasons. Some users may initially get confused when trying to evaluate the demo because ShredIt unexplainedly places two shortcuts in the Start menu, one of which does not work. You have to click the one labeled Demo to actually get anything done. The program claims to be able to shred both files and folders, but in our tests, it only worked with files. Adding a file to delete is a self-explanatory affair, but we wish ShredIt let you do so via the context menu or by dragging and dropping. You will find a couple of government-sanctioned erasing algorithms to choose from (though not as many as with competing programs), and you also can specify write patterns and number of wipes. But all of this may be a moot point, since this anemic demo only deletes–not shreds–files and warns you they could be potentially recovered. All things considered, we’d call ShredIt slightly below average when compared to other applications in this category.

How to Run ShredIt on Mac

Mac Version May Be Available

Option 1: Use Parallels

Parallels is the fastest, easiest, and most powerful option to run Windows on your Mac. Data can be shared between Mac and Windows and switching between the two is as simple as switching screens. Run it On Mac recommends Parallels as the #1 best way to run ShredIt on your Mac desktop or laptop.

Pros: Very Cost-Effective; Easily transfer files; Easily switch between Windows & Mac.

Cons: May see a slight decrease in performance; Cost varies from $50-80 for a personal license.

Option 2: Use Bootcamp

Boot Camp is a boot utility included with most Apple desktop and laptop products that allows users to install a Windows operating system alongside the native macOS/OS X operating system. Using Bootcamp is a relatively technical process and should probably only be undertaken by someone who understands the process.

Pros: Free; Good option if you need high performance or are using an older machine.

Cons: Switching between operating systems requires a restart; difficult, technical installation process.
